The Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization will be speaking about the NO-HEAT project, a $1 million Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Action Grant initiative focused on making walking and biking safer during extreme heat. The project uses climate and mobility data to identify routes most vulnerable to heat exposure and works with municipalities and partners like WalkMassachusetts to pilot cooling strategies and improve climate-resilient active transportation.

The tragedy on Belmont Street is a heartbreaking r The tragedy on Belmont Street is a heartbreaking reminder that our roads aren’t just lines on a map—they are the places where we live, walk, and raise our families. Since 2015, 32 people in Brockton have lost their lives simply trying to cross the street.

Poor lighting and a lack of safe crossings turn everyday walks into life-threatening risks. We can’t bring back those we’ve lost, but we can demand a city designed to protect the living.

How You Can Help:
Demand Change: Contact local and state leaders to prioritize safer crossings and better lighting on Belmont St and across Brockton.

Show Up: Speak up for “Complete Streets” and traffic calming measures at the next public meeting.

Report Hazards: Use SeeClickFix to report dangerous sidewalk gaps or speeding hotspots.

Support the BTSC: Follow the Brockton Transportation Safety Coalition (WalkMassachusetts, Brockton Workers Alliance, and Brockton Bikes) to stay informed on transit audits and advocacy efforts.

Safe streets start with us. 🚶‍♂️🚲 Please share this post to help spread awareness. Every voice makes it harder for our leaders to look the other way.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the walk on Thank you to everyone who joined us on the walk on Tuesday night! We couldn’t have asked for better weather. Each speaker brought a powerful perspective on the past, present, and future of Roxbury.

Community feels more vital than ever. The more we connect in person and try new experiences, the more we can find light at the end of what can sometimes feel like a long, uncertain, and underfunded tunnel.

As Carmen from @bostoncyclistsunion and May shared, we encourage you to return to Nubian Square—shop locally, enjoy live music, and dine in the neighborhood.

I’m also excited to share that we raised $448 for @blackmarketnubian Market through donations from this walk. I’ve always believed that our money is our power—and every day, we make choices about where it goes. Black Market is more than a storefront; it’s a cultural anchor in Nubian Square. This 1,720-square-foot gallery provides a vital platform for hundreds of Black artists and entrepreneurs, many of whom have been historically excluded from traditional retail spaces.

New legislation filed by Maura Healey aims to brin New legislation filed by Maura Healey aims to bring clearer rules to e-bikes, scooters, and other micromobility devices—but safety advocates are reminding us to keep the bigger picture in focus.

As Brendan Kearney shared, “the number one public safety threat isn’t e-bikes—it’s people who are driving cars and trucks.”

The proposed bill introduces a new speed-based framework, but many key safety measures—like infrastructure funding and stronger protections for people walking—are still missing.

At WalkMassachusetts, we know safer streets come from designing roads that work for everyone—not just regulating new devices.

We are 2️⃣ days away from our Walkability for Comm We are 2️⃣ days away from our Walkability for Community: Nubian Square in Action Walk. Every spring, WalkMass organizes a walk to commemorate Bob Sloane; this walk is in partnership with Boston Cyclist Union. We are grateful to Grimes King Foundation for the funding to do this walk and continue our work in the Roxbury, Mattapan and Dorchester area.

For nearly a decade, Black Market has been more than a storefront—it is the heartbeat of Nubian Square. This 1,720-square-foot gallery provides a vital platform for hundreds of Black artists and entrepreneurs who are often excluded from traditional retail.

Now, as gentrification reshapes Roxbury, Black Market is fighting for the Right to Remain. With their option to purchase the building set to expire, ownership is the only way to ensure this community landmark isn’t displaced.

Every dollar raised during this walk goes directly to Black Market to help them buy, protect, and preserve their home.

On April 11, Marleigh was killed by a driver in Webster, MA. The driver had been arrested for negligent operation and drug possession days earlier.

Our current system is reactive—it waits for a tragedy to happen before taking the keys away. We are days away from releasing our 2025 Crash Report, and the message is clear: Massachusetts needs a “One-Strike” policy for high-risk behavior.

We can’t afford to wait for a pattern of behavior when a single incident can cost a life.

At WalkMassachusetts, we don’t just tolerate walke At WalkMassachusetts, we don’t just tolerate walkers. We celebrate them. 🚶‍♀️

Marathon Weekend is here, Boston! While a recent ad has suggested that walking is something to be “tolerated,” we know the truth: in Boston—especially this week—walking is how we show up.

It’s how the loudest fans reach Heartbreak Hill, how volunteers get to their posts at 5:00 AM, and how neighbors navigate the incredible energy of our streets. 📢

True inclusivity means respecting every pace—whether you’re an elite competitor, a para-athlete, or a family cheering from the curb. Respect belongs to everyone moving on our streets everyday. ♿️ 🏃‍♀️ 🧡
