🚨 Boston to Hold Public Hearing on Snow Removal Ga 🚨 Boston to Hold Public Hearing on Snow Removal Gaps ❄️

Before the latest storm, the Boston City Council scheduled a public hearing to address dangerous gaps in the city’s snow removal—especially on sidewalks and curb ramps that serve as lifelines for many residents.

Disability rights advocates have made it clear: uncleared sidewalks don’t just cause inconvenience—they can trap neighbors who are blind, deaf, or have mobility disabilities. When pedestrian infrastructure is ignored, basic travel becomes impossible.

🗓 Hearing Details:
📌 Dockets #0270, #0291–0292
❄️ Snow removal relief
👷 Creation of a snow corps
🧊 Purchasing snow melters
📍 Iannella Chamber, 5th Floor, Boston City Hall
⏰ March 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM

This is a citywide hearing, and the public can testify. WalkMassachusetts will be there alongside partners in the Shared Spaces collaborative.

Eight years ago, WM Executive Director Brendan Kea Eight years ago, WM Executive Director Brendan Kearney shared this quick video showing how snow-covered curb cuts can turn a simple trip down the block into a barrier — especially for people using wheelchairs, walkers, strollers, or anyone with limited mobility.

Unfortunately, it’s still just as relevant today.

Sidewalk and curb ramp clearing remains an issue in communities throughout the Commonwealth, making winter travel unsafe and inaccessible for many neighbors.

Keeping curb cuts and sidewalks clear isn’t just courtesy — it’s access, safety, and equity.
