“We’re in favor of a bridge to make this connection. That is kind of a crucial connection for the region — not just for Everett or Somerville, but all the communities from the north,” said Brendan Kearney, deputy director for the group WalkBoston. “It would be disappointing to see all these planning efforts that are coming together go out the window.”

According to the group WalkBoston there were nearly 700 crashes involving pedestrians who were either injured or killed. They’re hoping for more data collection to zero in on the most troublesome spots.

“Data access and collection are not as good as it could be to determine where crashes are happening and people getting hurt,” said Stacey Beuttell, executive director of WalkBoston.

In last week’s State of the City address (“Mayor calls for bolder action on transportation, housing,” Page A1, Jan. 8), Mayor Martin J. Walsh tasked the Boston Police and Transportation departments to “implement a plan to strengthen traffic enforcement” in Boston. As bicycle and pedestrian advocates on the city’s Vision Zero Task Force, we have some suggestions on what should be included in that plan.

The MetroWest Health Foundation awarded over $300,000 in new grants to 16 area organizations. These grants will support various programs designed to improve health and wellness across the region.

WalkBoston, $17,500, to engage teens in promoting a more walkable community in Framingham.
