Looking for a fun and healthy way to explore your community? Check out the Community Walks maps below!
These maps offer a variety of walking routes for all fitness levels, so you can find what works best for you and those walking with you. Each map features three different loops, so you can customize and adjust the length of your walks.
The Community Walks maps are also a great way to discover new places in your neighborhood. Along the way, you’ll see historic landmarks, charming architecture, and key local amenities.

Here are some additional details about the Community Walks program:
- Community Walks is a research project between WalkMassachusetts, Tufts Medical Center, and Boston Housing Development (BHD). The project started at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and moved to Tufts Medical Center in Summer 2023.
- The program provides residents of BHD and other community members with opportunities to choose physical activities and have access to local urban walking trails.

Faneuil
Take a stroll around Brighton and discover the hidden gems of this beautiful Boston neighborhood. These walking routes allow you to visit Brighton Center, where you can find key restaurants and amenities. You will also have the opportunity to visit some local parks and green spaces. Start with a shorter route and build up your physical activity as you become more comfortable. Route A is a great way to see the neighborhood and access McKinley Park. Route B takes you past some of the neighborhood’s most beautiful architecture. And Route C gets you to Brighton Center and its many amenities. Feel free to mix and match the routes to keep your walks interesting and dynamic. This map also overlaps with key destinations highlighted on the Commonwealth walking routes.
Commonwealth
This urban trail is designed to give you great access to destinations around Brighton Center while allowing you to access parks and green spaces. Start off slow and allow yourself to enjoy key amenities around Brighton. When you are ready for more physical activity, definitely work your way up to completing all three loops available on the walking map to give you the full benefit of the offerings of the neighborhood. This map also overlaps with key destinations highlighted on the Faneuil walking routes. Feel free to make adjustments and visit new destinations to keep your walk interesting and dynamic in order to improve your overall physical activity goals.
Franklin Field
Enjoy the beautifully designed Harambee Park and its green spaces while you walk around the neighborhood to improve your physical activity. These walking routes really utilize Harambee Park as an anchor due to its assets of activities and key services. Feel free to start off slow with just one loop of the walking routes and build your way up to completing all three different routes highlighted on the map. This resource will highlight different ways that you can keep your walks interesting and dynamic so that you can continue to improve your overall physical activity.
Mildred Hailey
This resource allows you to utilize the Southwest Corridor as an anchor to enjoy a walk through two great Boston neighborhoods (Roxbury and Jamaica Plain). Start off slow with one loop before building your way up to all three loops that give you access to key destinations and views of the city. Improve your physical activity by walking near historical locations and helpful local institutions. Utilize the orange line or the great bus network in the area to access different parts of the walk, keep things interesting, or if you have a limited amount of time to walk.
Franklin Hill
Explore the Franklin Hill area and discover the abundance of parks and open spaces surrounding it. Our walking map will guide you through the neighborhood, starting with the elegant Franklin Hill housing developments next to the iconic Franklin Park. As you wander through the area, take time to appreciate the well-designed neighborhood and local shops on Blue Hill Ave. Our longest loop will take you on a journey through the historical Franklin Park, where you can immerse yourself in the beauty of the park and its circuit drive walking path. Don’t miss out on experiencing this gem of the city. Let our walking map be your guide to discovering the wonders of the Franklin Hill area.
Maverick Landing
This map is your guide to experiencing the beauty and richness of East Boston’s waterfront and charming neighborhood. Walk around the Maverick Landing neighborhood development and take in the stunning waterfront views. As you explore the East Boston waterfront park and witness the bustling activity near the Maverick Blue Line Station, you’ll be immersed in the neighborhood’s unique culture. The longest loop will lead you through the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway multi-use path and the East Boston Memorial, allowing you to fully appreciate the area’s history and culture. With local businesses and a variety of green spaces and parks to visit, East Boston is a truly wonderful city neighborhood to explore.
